Functional Capacity Evaluations

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a comprehensive standardized assessment that assists in determining an individual’s level of functional ability to perform tasks and activities from an objective standpoint. It is a valid and reliable assessment tool comprised of questionnaires, range of motion assessment as well as various physical tasks including pushing and pulling, lifting, standing, walking and sitting as well as repetitive tasks and activities requiring fine motor skills.  Standardized measures of consistency of effort, reliability and symptom reports are incorporated into the assessment protocol.

Commonly, FCE's are performed in order to determine a workers ability to perform the duties of their job.  In this case, a detailed job description or Job demands analysis )JDA) is necessary in order to plan the best testing protocols to administer during the assessment.  If a JDA or detailed job description are not provided, a job site visit may be necessary.  Used together, FCE’s and JDA’s can determine your strengths, abilities, and limitations specific to an occupation.

The FCE comes with a comprehensive report with specific recommendations in one or more of the following areas: overall functional ability, ability to return to work or perform job related duties, rehabilitation potential and plans, ergonomic equipment needs, and graduated return to work schedules.

We offer half day, full day and 2 day assessments.

The Exercise ball and Rehab

Ball Workout

The exercise ball is an exercise treatment option for back pain sufferers and is designed to help prevent or minimize further episodes of low back pain as part of a rehabilitation program. The exercise ball is effective in rehabilitation of the back because it strengthens and develops the core body muscles that help to stabilize the spine.
