Our Occupational Therapists work together with the VAC Case Manager, the Veteran and the Veteran’s family to help identify rehabilitation goals, taking into consideration any health problems. During participation in the rehabilitation plan, the case manager, health professionals and other professionals help improve the veteran’s health and function to the fullest extent possible. The ultimate goal is the successful completion of the rehabilitation program, as this will best help the Veteran adjust to life at home, in the community or at work.
Wheelchair seating and mobility is a technical and specialized area of Occupational Therapy. The therapist must have a good understanding of not only the physical and functional needs of their client but also of the current technology available in order to choose the equipment that is best suited to your needs. Wheelchairs and cushions available in the market are always changing and improving and we keep up to date with the newest products.
Based on the results of the seating and mobility assessment, the Occupational Therapist will set goals with the client and create a plan to achieve these goals. Goals may include improving mobility, improving positioning, preventing pressure sores, improving posture and maximizing function.
